HELLO HELLO HELLO & HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY for a second time today!! I’m back again to close out the week long Women Rule the World Event we’ve been having at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity to celebrate Mother’s Day.
We want you to bring your “femme fatales” creations over to The Portal for a chance to win a $10 shopping spree at the Lost Coast Designs/Carmen’s Veranda online stores and you’ve got until midnight (PST) May 15th to link up. Maybe my offering today will
spur guilt motivate you into the mood to join in…….? 😉
My card could be the kind of card that a Mother sends to her kids to gently remind them to call on those special occasions–Like Mother’s Day!! Today!! Like, Call Today!! It’s not really a greeting card-more like a warning card! LOL 🙂
So, while all those children are now guilted into calling their Moms, I’ve got a few pics of what I did to make this card–Let me show you!!
I gathered a few of my favorite Lost Coast Designs images–Early Stitch n’ Bitch, Doodle Circles and not in the photo, the Cat Quote stamp. I also pulled out some DecoArt Media fluid acrylics and my 5″ x 7″ gelli plate….
I applied dots of DAM Dark Grey Value 3 & Quinacridone Violet to the gelli plate and brayered to blend.
I pressed a piece of mixed-media paper into the gelli plate for this first layer of color. I wasn’t ‘feelin’ it’ with these colors, so behind the scenes, I brayered an additional layer of DAM Titanium White over the gelli plate and pressed the panel back down into the paint.
I like the additional layer of white over the darker colors–there’s now this neat marbled effect going on with a slight hint of looking like plaster, too–COOL!!
Using Jet Black Archival ink, I stamped our Doodle Circles onto the gelli print background and separately, stamped the Early Stitch n’ Bitch ladies onto a piece of white card stock and die cut into their respective little cirlces.
I added a layer of stenciling using WV’s Add a Stencil and Polka Dotty stencils with DAM Titanium White fluid acrylic and Picked Raspberry DI. The random script in the background is our Cat Quotes stamp that I randomly applied here and there with Jet Black Archival.
Behind the scenes, after I die cut the EBnS ladies into their circles, I coated them matte Decou-Page, heat set then brushed a layer of DAM Crackle Glaze and allowed to air dry.
When the crackle was dry, I applied Black Soot DI onto the surfaces then rubbed into the cracks with my fingers.
I edged the circles with Black Soot DP and heat set. I adhered the ladies onto the panel with matte Decou-Page and framed them with ‘enameled’ circles. When all of the circles and their frames were dry and set into place, I ran the panel through my sewing machine to add all of the stitched accents.
I created the quote with my computer and printed out onto white card stock, fussy cut into word bands then gave them the old crackle treatment. I mounted the word bands onto black card stock, adhered to the panel with matte Decou-Page and added a few black rhinestones for a little blingy-bling. I adhered the panel onto a top-folded piece of lavender colored card stock and finished it all off with a rubbing of Black Soot DI along all of the edges.
I hope you’ve enjoyed all of the creations my fellow LCDCV DTmates have shared this week for our Women Rule the World event, and even though today is the last day of DT projects, you’ve got until next Sunday, May 15th to enter your projects for the occasion.
Thanks so much for coming over to my blog today and Happy Mother’s Day again to all you Moms out there celebrating!!
Until next time–Stay Artsy Fartsy!!
