Hello Spring!

HELLO, HELLO & Happy Sunday!!  I’m here today with a colorful offering for Artistic Outpost!  I felt badly about not having something Easter/Spring related last weekend to share, so I made up for it today–Hello, Spring, Hello!!

This card is neon-like in its brightness, but it did not get this bright of a start.  After a couple of creative, darker toned,  more vintagey miss-starts, I scraped the original tag, and made this brightly hued card instead!!  I couldn’t present another vintagey-grungy creation again this weekend 😉 🙂

The idea was born out of the need for color and to use up left-over supplies!  I have collections hoards stashes of fussy cut pieces that I save for the future.  Sometimes that future comes for those pieces, sometimes it doesn’t.  The letters that are in this picture, didn’t make the cut for the finished card, but I did end with a larger stash of fussy cut letters for the future!!  It’s great how that all works out–more stuff in the stash for the future-GREAT! 😉

I’m using lots of separate images from several Artistic Outpost stamp sets for this card–Kudzu Kafe, The Outpost, Serenity, Generation Redux & Secretary Pool.  I know, it seems like a lot, but it’s not, really.  There are single images in each set that I really enjoy using, a lot! 🙂

Here, I’ve got my wrinkle free Distress Stain background, created with Picked Raspberry DS & Mustard Seed DSS, layered with color coordinated stamped images from Generation Redux.  I then splattered Picket Fence DP over the surface with a round paint brush and heat dried.  I stamped Kudzu Kafe girl onto the panel with Jet Black Archival–she’s a place holder and will be covered when all is said and done.

I stamped the alphabet block letters from the Secretary Pool set onto white card stock several times in Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalade DIs and fussy cut the letters I needed to spell out ‘Spring’.  I also did a little monoprint stenciling using my Latticework LS with Walnut Stain DI.  I applied a couple of pieces of tissue tape, adhered the letters to the panel and stamped ‘hello’ from the Serenity set in Jet Black Archival.

Kudzu Kafe girl, who is a left over from a previous project, was stamped onto mixed-media paper with Jet Black Archival and water colored with my Distress Markers and my water brush.  To update her for this card, I gave her a pair of Butterfly Duo wings from a piece of mixed-media paper that was also a left over from a previous project-so it was already stained and stamped and ready to go!  The script is from The Outpost set and is another one of my favorite, go-to AO images.

After the letters were adhered in place, I outlined with Walnut Stain DM first, smudged with a damp finger, then outlined again with a white gel pen.  I added a couple of enamel dots and outlined those with my white gel pen, too.

Even though Kudzu Kafe Girl has a bit of a scowl on her face (she’s squinting because of the sun!), this card brings a smile to my face!  It really is quite bright in person and it’s like holding a little piece of sunshine in your hands 🙂

Thank You for joining me today and spending a little bit of your Sunday with me!  I sure hope you got a little burst of sunshine with my Artistic Outpost creation this week 🙂

Until next time–Stay Artsy Fartsy!!

Your Own Story

Hello There & Happy Easter Weekend!!  Thanks for joining me for my Sunday project for Artistic Outpost.  I wish I had planned better, I would have made something for Easter to share with you today, but, alas, I was not prepared!  Unfortunately, this past week was spent on not very pleasant house-hold emergencies (cough cough, septic system..) and then a sporadic, at best, satellite internet connection, which needed a visit from a technician.  Oh, the joys of rural living!  But enough about yucky work-week stuff!!  Let’s get on with some much needed weekend craft-therapy!!

I created today’s tag with my Paperboy & Secretary Pool stamp sets.  Let me show you some of what I did to make this tag 🙂

As I was going through my Artistic Outpost stamp sets, I grabbed the Paperboy set and took a look at it–Well, gosh darn, this is brand new!  I haven’t inked these puppies up yet!!  Idea-Born!!  Gosh, that never happens–I usually have to sit and stare for a little bit, but it helped that I’ve got a big pile of treated tags, ready to go 😉

I’ve got a #10 jumbo manila tag and a #8 kraft tag.  I’ve had the jumbo tag stained for a while now, it’s one of those extra tags that I use to sop up extra stains and such.  I don’t remember which stains I used, but I’m going to guess there’s some Aged Mahagony, Wild Honey and possibly Frayed Burlap.  The kraft tag has remnants of gesso on my WV polka dotty stencil.  I just can’t let anything go to waste 🙂

Behind the scenes, the kids were stamped onto mixed-media paper with Jet Black Archival and colored with my Distress Markers and my water brush.  The megaphone was heat embossed with WV Red Geranium EP and the pencils, from the Secretary Pool set, were colored with my DMs separately, stamped then coated with a thin layer of Diamond Glaze.

Before securing all of the fussy cut pieces, and something that I did not take pictures of, was the ‘before’ shots of the layered jumbo tag.  I adhered the kraft tag onto the jumbo with matte multi-medium and pressed between heavy books for a spell.  Then I did some random stamping and more polka dot stenciling, then added a few remnant rubs.  I stamped the quote onto a Journaling Ticket with Jet Black Archival, and stapled to the front of the tag.  Before adhering the kids down, I splattered the tag with Hunter Grey Twinkling H20’s.

I gave this cute little guy a fussy cut newspaper that I had stamped “What’s the buzz?” onto (using a stamp positioner), but the ‘buzz’ part got snipped off during finishing touches.  After I adhered him to the tag, I gave him, and pretty much everything else, an outline of Walnut Stain DM and smudged with a water dampened finger.

Just a close up shot of the top of the tag–I love those rem-rubsI topped the tag with a piece of Eclectic Elements fabric, frayed with my craft scratcher and rubbed with a bit of Vintage Photo DI.

Do these young ladies look like they’ve got attitude or what!  I see them as the big sisters of the little paperboy and they’re just hanging around to make sure their little brother is OK while he’s selling his papers 🙂

Here’s the back of the tag–I left it kind of naked, leaving the colors of the Distress Stains to do all of the talking.  I also distressed the edges of the tag with my paper distresser and inked with Walnut Stain DI.

As I mentioned, the tags I used were treated and ready to go–Well, I’ve got two large piles of treated surfaces, that I’ve challenged myself with using up this year.  Two tags down, 40+ more to go!!  🙂

Thank you again for taking a little time out of your Easter Sunday to join me today for my weekly offering with Artistic Outpost.  I appreciate your visits and the time you take to leave me messages!! 🙂 🙂

Until next time–Stay Artsy Fartsy!!
